Summary: At Christmas time, its the little things that matter that show someone that you care.
Author Notes: I'm... not entirely sure where this came from or even if it makes any sense.

“You’ll know if Santa Claus is real or not if he eats the cookies and milk you left out for him,” Fay told the children who were protesting that they were too old to believe in Santa as they were ushered to bed early that evening. “Now go to bed or Santa won’t bring you presents.”

“But Fay-san, you’re the one who put out the cookies and milk,” Syaoran protested as Fay tried to push him up the stairs. Kurogane’s eyebrow twitched.

“And we already know Kurogane-san dresses up in a red vest and a Santa hat to put the presents underneath the tree,” Sakura joined in. Kurogane pretended to be thoroughly interested in his ninja magazine he was flipping through.

“Exactly why I put the cookies and milk out to prove Santa really does exist.” Kurogane’s eyebrow twitched again. “You know Kuro-rin doesn’t like sweets, and he can’t drink milk. So when the cookies and milk are gone in the morning, you’ll know that Santa is real. Now go to bed,” he ordered, shoving them upstairs despite their protests that they really could stay up because Santa didn’t exist and the adults didn’t have to pretend for their sakes. Fay either didn’t hear them or just pretended he didn’t as he finished pushing them up the stairs. The room was empty and quiet for a few minutes as Fay put the children to bed. “Well, Sakura-chan and Syaoran-kun are in bed,” he said as he sat down on the couch next to Kurogane. He grunted in response. “Can you believe those two don’t believe in Santa Claus?”

Kurogane slowly lowered his magazine and stared at the mage. “Don’t tell me you actually believe in Santa?” There was no way that man, no matter how crazy he might have been, could actually believe in Santa Claus. He refused to believe that.

“Of course. Anything is possible, and I think people always need something innocent to believe in or else they start to lose themselves. Well, he might not be around anymore, but I definitely believe he existed at some point.”

“Maybe Santa really will come tonight.” He buried his nose back in the magazine, effectively ending the conversation.

“Kuro-chan, are you going to bed soon?” Fay asked, and he almost thought that might have been an invitation. Especially with the way Fay was trailing his finger along his own thigh while looking at Kurogane with half-lidded eyes.

“You can go up if you’re tired. I want to finish reading this,” he said indicating the magazine he was holding. “Don’t wait up for me if you feel too tired.”

Fay nodded, looking slightly disappointed but Kurogane figured there was not much he could do about that short of following him up to bed. “Alright. Good night, Kuro-tan,” he said before he sauntered out of the room with a backward glance over his shoulder in one last attempt to get the ninja to follow him.

Which didn’t work, even though his body did self-consciously lift from the sofa a bit. He waited downstairs for about an hour flipping through the magazine, listening carefully for any noises coming from upstairs. Once he was certain the three other occupants were sleeping and the white thing had not been seen in a while, he threw the magazine down on the couch and walked over to the closet. He pulled the hat and vest out first and slid them on. He grabbed the bag of presents he and the blonde had wrapped for the children earlier in the week. Keeping a careful ear for any noises from upstairs, he decided it was best to get this done quickly. He organized the presents under the tree and threw the empty bag back into the closet. Now there was only one thing left to take care of.

The cookies and milk. He slowly approached the platter as it stared up at him from the table with the letter to Santa attached to it.

“Okay, cookies, I don’t like you, and you probably don’t like the thought of me eating you.” If cookies actually could think, which he highly doubted they could. He must have been spending too much time with the blonde. “I can do this.” He picked up one of the six cookies and stared it down for a little bit longer. The only way he was going to do this was one bite at a time.

Which he eventually managed to do, and he grimaced at the taste and only barely managed not to spit it out. Not only was it far too sweet, but it had been sitting out all afternoon and was growing slightly stale. Which made the damn thing taste twenty times worse as far as he was concerned. He eventually managed to eat the entire thing and he felt a small surge of relief as he swallowed the last mouthful. That had only taken six minutes… to eat one cookie. Which meant he had half an hour of torture left to go.

After repeating the process five more times, his stomach was beginning to feel a bit queasy, and he put his hand over it to ease its rumbling. He only had the glass of milk left to conquer. His stomach churned at the thought, but he picked the glass up anyway. Well, it was then or never. Tightly closing his eyes, he slowly started to raise the glass to his lips.

It never got there as a light hand on his wrist stopped the glass mere centimeters from his mouth. “You’re supposed to be in bed,” he told the blond man who was smiling up at him.

“And you were supposed to join me,” he countered as he gently pulled the glass from his hands. “And it rather sweet that you were willing to drink milk and eat cookies for the children.” Except it wasn’t just about the children, and Kurogane imagined they both knew that. “And I think I should do something for you as well. Merry Christmas, Kuro-tan,” Fay told him as he toasted Kurogane before drinking the warm Christmas milk for the ninja.
