“It’s a secret, Kuro-sama,” Fai would murmur between heated kisses while running his hands feverishly across Kurogane’s slick skin. “You mustn’t tell any one about this.” Kurogane generally took little heed of the science teacher during those moments, which were quite frequent, almost every time they had sex and occasionally when Fai would pull him into a storage closet for a brief kiss. Kurogane did not have any one he wised to tell; he did not believe his personal life was any one else’s business. He and Fai were sharing something physical and no one else at the school had a right to know about it.

Yet still the rumors persisted, whispers he overheard among the students, the staff, even the other teachers. They talked about it during their lunch break, in between classes, and during after-school activities. He and the science teacher had often been featured in the opinion column of the student run newspaper. From what he understood, there was even a college group dedicated to dissecting the evidence. The members meet bi-weekly to exchange stories of what they had witness the teachers doing and what it implied for their relationship. He always grew irritated when he heard the rumors, but Fai had never seemed to care, often encouraging the rumors by standing closer to Kurogane when curious students were loitering around. The easiest way to get rid of the rumors would be to actually openly declare their relationship, which Kurogane was reluctant to do, and Fai was completely insistent about keeping their relationship a secret.

In fact, Fai seemed to thrive on the rumors. When people were talking more, especially on days something was printed in the newspaper, Fai would kiss him in places where they might possibly get caught and touch him in highly inappropriate spots for school property. On those nights, Fai would come to his apartment and after briskly greeting the gym teacher, would pin him somewhere and start taking his clothes off. The science teacher would be exceptionally frisky on those evenings, playing games with Kurogane for hours before going home or occasional falling asleep in the gym teacher’s bed, sweaty and exhausted and giving all appearances of being perfectly satisfied.

Still, the school occasionally found other things to talk about, like when the chairlady was arrested for a DUI, and the two of them would be forgotten about for a few days. During the dry spells, instead of attempting to be closer to Kurogane, Fai would act as if he was completely uninterested in him, avoiding him while on school property and making a point not to look at him. At which point, rumors would eventually start that the two of them were in a fight and had broken up. After that, the fire would return to Fai, and Kurogane could expect a passionate night in his apartment as they “made up.”

At first, Kurogane didn’t worry about Fai’s changes in behavior because he knew the science teacher would eventually resume giving him what he wanted. Yet every night Fai whispered “It’s our secret,” while lying in his embrace. Kurogane began to wonder how much of their secret was truth and how much was just a rumor from the students, given encouragement by Fai who simply adored being talked about. Kurogane had not concerned himself with any of those thoughts when they had just been having sex, but as Kurogane found himself drawn closer to Fai, he feared making their relationship real would only destroy it.
